Sanfrecce Hiroshima's perfect August earned Michael Skibbe Manager of the Month honors.
The Viola were flawless in August, taking wins in all four matches they played, including against top teams Kashima Antlers, Kashiwa Reysol and Cerezo Osaka. Sanfrecce scored 13 goals in those four contests, showing off a deadly attack, while Skibbe also constructed a stern defense that conceded just four in the month.
In addition to his fine work in league play, Skibbe’s team also won their J.League YBC Levain Cup quarter-final tie to cap off a sterling August for Sanfrecce.
Top manager honors in J2 went to Fagiano Okayama’s Takashi Kiyama. His team won four of five matches in August, showing off great attack and defense. Kiyama’s team scored three goals in each of their two victories to start the month, then kept clean sheets in their two victories to close out the month.
Fagiano Okayama’s strong play in August has helped lead a charge for promotion, with Kiyama’s club up to third place in the table.
Iwaki FC’s undefeated August earned Hiromasa Suguri the J3 Manager of the Month award. After a scoreless draw to start the month, Iwaki won their next three matches by a combined score of 12-1 to solidify their place atop the table.
