Shunsuke Mito has been magnificent in 2023, helping lead Albirex Niigata to a successful season back in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, but he found another level on September 17, when he scored a gorgeous goal to win Konami Goal of the Month.
Mito got a pass at 20 yards and, at a full sprint, took a beautiful touch to leave a defender in his dust before finishing for a marvelous goal that he made look so simple.
Not only was Mito’s goal beautiful, but it earned Albi a 2-2 draw with Gamba Osaka and kept them in a fight for a top half finish.
This is Mito’s second Goal of the Month award, having also won the award in May as he continues to put together a season to remember.
Konami Goal of the Month in J2 went to Machida Zelvia’s Junya Suzuki for his free kick to remember. Suzuki went for goal from more than 30 yards, hitting a pacey, curling ball that found its way into the top corner of the net for a marvelous goal.
In J3, Nobuyuki Shiina’s outstanding solo effort won him Konami Goal of the Month. He held off a defender, came all the way across from the right and then hit a left-footed bullet that pierced the top corner. It was his second goal of the game, single-handedly taking Kataller Toyama from 1-0 down to a 2-1 win.
