J.League Match Preview: Sanfrecce open new season and new stadium against the Reds

The 2024 Meiji Yasuda J1 League season is set to begin!

The new campaign officially kicks off on Friday at 14:00 JST at Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima, the brand new home ground of Sanfrecce Hiroshima, as the hosts square off against Urawa Reds.

To make things all the better, you can watch the contest live on JLeague.co or on your local broadcaster.

The Viola are coming off of a third-place finish last season and Michael Skibbe has every intention of guiding Sanfrecce just that little bit higher this year. Yuki Ohashi has come over from Shonan Bellmare to give Sanfrecce a jolt up front and the fans in Hiroshima rightly believe that their new ground could also house a title-contending side.

Urawa were right on Sanfrecce’s heels last season, finishing a point back in fourth place. They had the league’s best defense and have added stars like Samuel Gustafson in the midfield and Thiago Santana up front, which should make them even more formidable as they aim for trophies in 2024.

It’s been a long winter, but the wait for J.League football is finally over and it all gets underway with Sanfrecce and Urawa live this Friday afternoon. Be sure to join us live!
