Shimizu S-Pulse striker Chong Tese has been named the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League’s Monthly MVP for July after leading his team with impressive form.
The former North Korea international picked up where injured captain Genki Omae left off, scoring seven goals in his club’s six matches.
Tese, who is currently tied for first place in the J2’s scoring table, was tied in July for the most shots (25) and most shots on target (14) in the division.
“I’m very pleased to have been able to score this many goals in July and receive this award,” Tese said.
“People like to focus on strikers who score goals but I was able to score because the team is in good form, and I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this without my team-mates helping to set up my goals.
“My team-mates and our fans are responsible for 99 percent of the work and I simply do the last percent, so I want to share this with everyone.”
