J.League Top Scorer Watch: Germain still on top as Ohashi makes push

Ryo Germain is still on top of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League Top Scorer chart after seven matchweeks. The Júbilo Iwata striker scored two goals midweek to take his total to seven on the season, pacing the league at a goal per game.

Germain went top of the scoring table in Matchweek 2, when he scored four goals, and he’s kept it up since. His double against Albirex Niigata started from the penalty spot and then he added another four minutes later with a tidy finish.

Germain has now led the league in goals for six weeks.

Yuki Ohashi is right on Germain’s heels, though. The Sanfrecce Hiroshima frontman scored two over the weekend, first from the penalty spot and then in stoppage time when he drilled a shot into the bottom corner for his fifth and sixth goals of the campaign.

Ryotaro Araki is in third place after beginning the FC Tokyo comeback in midweek action with a terrific strike from 20 yards that put him on five goals this season. He had to sit out over the weekend because FC Tokyo were playing Kashima Antlers, the club he is on loan from.

Anderson Lopes, Léo Ceará and Taisei Miyashiro are all tied for fourth place with five goals this season and all three found the back of the net for their respective clubs in Matchweek 7 action.
