A late intervention from substitute Kosuke Kinoshita earned Kashiwa Reysol a 1-1 draw against FC TOKYO on Friday night, as Match Week 10 of the 2025 MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE got underway in explosive style.
There were also fireworks ahead of kick off at Japan National Stadium, and as the rain fell steadily during the first half both teams acquitted themselves well on the slippery surface.
Clear chances were at a premium in the first half an hour, but the home fans were celebrating in the 35th minute when Teruhito Nakagawa opened the scoring for FC TOKYO, making no mistake from close range after a Kota Tawaratsumida ball into the box was deflected into his path.
FC TOKYO almost doubled their lead in sensational style six minutes later, but Soma Anzai’s free-kick from the edge of the area thudded against the bar and Kein Sato could only divert the rebound into the grateful arms of Kashiwa goalkeeper Ryosuke Kojima.
Parity was almost restored a minute before half time after a lovely Kashiwa passing move, but Yuki Kakita couldn’t quite guide his attempt on target after a low Tojiro Kubo cross from the right.
Kashiwa went close again in the 54th minute when Tomoya Koyamatsu teed up Yoshio Koizumi just outside the area, but his shot spun agonisingly wide of the far post.
Yoshio Koizumi had another glorious chance for Kashiwa in the 85th minute, but after breaking in behind his dinked effort fell just off target, and when Diego stabbed straight at FC TOKYO goalkeeper Taishi Brandon Nozawa with two minutes of regular time remaining it looked as though the game would finish 1-0.
That feeling was further reinforced in the second minute of injury time when Taishi Brandon Nozawa again refused to be beaten at a goalmouth scramble, but Kashiwa weren’t to be denied and finally made the breakthrough in the 94th minute.
With bodies committed forward Koki Kumasaka drilled a ball in from the right flank, and Kosuke Kinoshita managed to get his foot in first just ahead of Yasuki Kimoto to finally beat Taishi Brandon Nozawa and ensure Kashiwa took a share of the spoils.
