Spurs are on their way to Tokyo!
Tottenham Hotspur, one of the English Premier League’s most well-known football clubs, is set to face off with Vissel Kobe on Saturday, July 27th at the Japan National Stadium in the MEIJI YASUDA J.LEAGUE WORLD CHALLENGE 2024 powered by docomo.
Tickets for this clash in the capital, which kicks off at 19:00 local time, can be purchased right HERE.
The visitors from North London are led by an array of superstars, including captain and former Premier League Golden Boot winner Son Heung-min, along with Brazil international Richarlison, Sweden international Dejan Kulusevski, and exciting new signing Archie Gray.
And yet, with so much star power on the pitch, the spotlight might be brightest in the Tottenham dugout. Ange Postecoglou, who is coming off of a terrific first season as Spurs boss, spent more than three years in the J.League as Yokohama F·Marinos manager. He won the Meiji Yasuda J1 League crown in 2019, reaching the summit of Japanese football before moving onto Europe.
This will mark Postecoglou’s return to Japanese football, even if he does so as an opposing coach. With the role that the J.League played in his growth as a manager, seeing Ange on the touchline will be quite the sight for fans at the National Stadium — especially if any F·Marinos supporters find their way there on the night.
It should be said that there's plenty of starpower on Vissel's side as well, with last year’s J1 MVP Yuya Osako, Samurai Blue goalkeeper Daiya Maekawa, and the electrifying Yoshinori Muto all expected to be in the mix. Muto will be especially familiar with Spurs after his time at Newcastle United, who will also be coming to Japan this summer.
The J.League World Challenge has featured some of the world’s best clubs, from Manchester City last year, to Chelsea in 2019 and Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla in 2017.
Now, Tottenham join that list, with all their stars and the Meiji Yasuda J1 League champions on the other side.
It’s going to be a marvelous night at the Japan National Stadium and you won’t want to miss it, so get your tickets now.
