J1 League Match Week 5 Recap: Kawasaki-F and Yokohama F・M share the points after spectacular Kanagawa Derby

Kawasaki Frontale and Yokohama F・Marinos played out an incredible 3-3 draw on Wednesday night, earning a point apiece and producing drama galore for the 21,478 fans in attendance at Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu.

Kawasaki-F had lost just once coming into the game while Yokohama F・M had only previously picked up one victory in the 2025 MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE, and the Kanagawa Derby started according to that form when Yuto Ozeki opened the scoring for Kawasaki-F in the seventh minute, tucking home his first J.League goal from close range after good play on the left flank by Marcinho.

It looked as though Kawasaki-F would go into the break still in possession of that lead, but Yan Matheus struck back with a fierce effort to make it 1-1 four minutes before half time, catching Kawasaki-F goalkeeper Jung Sung Ryong off guard with a fizzing low effort from outside the area.

That wasn’t to be the end of the sensational strikes for the evening, and Cesar Haydar went one better in the 67th minute when he rifled a fierce left-footed drive into the net from 35 yards to re-establish Kawasaki-F’s lead.

Yokohama F・M refused to be beaten though and applied increasing pressure as the clock ran down, and they were rewarded in the 89th minute when substitute Jun Amano prodded in from inside the six-yard box after Asahi Uenaka had volleyed Ryo Miyaichi’s cross from the right wing into his path.

The visitors weren’t intent on settling for a point either, and instead looked to have completed a remarkable turnaround to take all three in the second minute of injury time. Asahi Uenaka was again involved as he challenged Jung Sung Ryong for possession, and after the ball spun across goal Yan Matheus was on hand to gleefully sweep home his second of the night and what he thought was the winning goal.

Kawasaki-F were similarly determined not to end the contest empty-handed, however, and in the 100th minute captain for the night Kota Takai rose highest at a corner to give an absolutely breathless encounter one final twist as he powerfully headed home to restore parity for the third and final time.
