FC Machida Zelvia narrowly held on to their lead in the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League following a 2-2 draw at Fagiano Okayama in Friday’s Round 10 action.
The hosts took the lead through Yuki Oshitani’s effort in the fifth minute, but Zelvia equalised courtesy of Yuki Nakashima in the 31st.
Daiki Iwamasa gave Fagiano a 2-1 lead heading into halftime, but the visitors left with a point courtesy of Koji Suzuki’s goal in the 59th minute.
The southwestern Tokyo side are being hotly pursued by Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, who won 1-0 at home against Tokushima Vortis thanks to Yoshihiro Uchimura’s goal.
The J.League’s north-most club are one point behind Zelvia and tied with Cerezo Osaka, who fell 2-0 to Kyoto Sanga.
Shimizu S-Pulse gave the home crowd a 4-1 win over Zweigen Kanazawa, with captain Genki Omae and former North Korea international Jong Tae-se each scoring twice.
Kosuke Ota was the lone scorer for Zweigen, who are in last place with just two points from nine matches.
