Yuta Higuchi was unstoppable in August, destroying teams with romping runs off the right wing to win Konami Monthly MVP honors.
Higuchi began the month with one of the best performances by any player this season, notching a goal and two assists as Kashima Antlers rolled to a 3-0 victory over Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. He was a constant threat and did not slow down the rest of August, adding a goal in Kashima’s win over Sagan Tosu too as well as being a reliable defensive player tracking back.
Higuchi’s outstanding play led Antlers to three wins from four matches in August, which was crucial as they climbed to fifth place by the end of the month and firmly into the fight for the top spots in the league.
In J2, Konami Monthly MVP went to Shimizu S-Pulse’s Yoshinori Suzuki. The centerback was stupendous in August, solidifying a back line that is leading S-Pulse’s push for promotion. Suzuki led S-Pulse’s two clean sheets in August and 10 points from 12 matches, pushing the team into third place as they aim to make their way into the top flight.
FC Gifu’s Charles Nduka won MVP honors in J3 as he scored three goals and added an assist in his team’s undefeated August.
