Unstoppable Kawasaki Frontale top defending champions in the Kanagawa derby. Sagan Tosu return and seize the first victory in a month.

The nine games of Match-day 14 of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League were played on the 5th of September. Kawasaki Frontale overcame Yokohama F.Marinos in the derby and stayed on top as undisputed leaders.


Kawasaki traveled to neighboring city Yokohama to meet F.Marinos. The table leaders conceded an early lead with as Brazilian striker Marcos Junior put the home side ahead. However, Frontale equalized with a goal from rookie Kaoru Mitoma in the 33rd minute. The almighty Akihiro Ienaga made it 2-1 early in the second half, and Mitoma found the net again in the 50th minute. Kawasaki have now earned 38 points out of 45, and continue their incredible run.

Cerezo Osaka hosted Urawa Reds and broke a scoreless tie in the 48th minute as Ken Tokura found the net. They then proceeded to extend the lead to 3-0 with an owngoal and a goal by Shota Fujio. Cerezo keep chasing Kawasaki, but are eight points behind. FC Tokyo traveled to Oita Trinita. The capital city team took the lead with Shuto Abe and managed to get through the 90 minutes without conceding a goal, returning home with the whole three points.

Kashima Antlers traveled to Nagoya Grampus. The visitors’ Ryuji Izumi snatched a goal and Ryotaro Araki added one. Although they let one in, Shoma Doi newly extended their lead and made it 3-1, to seal a comfortable win - their third in a row. Gamba Osaka visited Vegalta Sendai and went on a goal-rush after conceding the lead. The final score was 4-1.

Kashiwa Reysol took the lead at Shimizu S-Pulse in the 35th minute through a goal from Hiroto Goya, and three minutes later, Ataru Esaka added another. The visitors conceded one just before the end, but still managed to win the match 2-1. Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeated Consadole Sapporo 2-0 with goals from Douglas Vieira and Yuya Asano. It was their first three points in the last five matches.

Sagan Tosu hosted Yokohama FC. In the 11th minute, Takeshi Kanamori gave the lead to the home-side, and the young stars duo made of Daichi Hayashi and Tomoya Koyamatsu extended the lead to 3-0. They obtained the first victory in over a month. Finally, Shonan Bellmare went ahead in the 50th minute through a goal from Kazuki Oiwa. However, three minutes later, Vissel Kobe made it 1-1, which was also the final score. Shonan couldn't claim a win, but at least managed to stop their losing streak at six.
