Urawa Reds on Sunday announced the dismissal of manager Mihailo Petrovic as well as his coach and interpreter Daisuke Sugiura.
The Serbian coach, who arrived at Saitama Stadium in 2012 after over half a decade managing Sanfrecce Hiroshima, led the Reds to four top-three finishes, two stage titles, and the 2016 J.League YBC Levain Cup - their first major championship in nine years.
"It's been an incredible honour to work at Urawa Reds for five and a half seasons,” Petrovic said in a statement.
“I've received so much support from the entire club and every year our results have improved.
“However, in recent months we've struggled to produce good results, and as the manager I have to take responsibility.
“I'm sorry that despite the support of the club, we did not earn the results everyone expected of us.
“The path to the J.League title is somewhat difficult, but Urawa Reds can absolutely finish in the top three and I hope the club can earn another AFC Champions League appearance.”
Team coach Takafumi Hori, who previously managed the Reds at the end of the 2011 season, will take over as manager for the remainder of the campaign.
