Record-setting Langerak to depart Grampus after season

Mitchell Langerak announced that he will leave Nagoya Grampus after the 2024 J.League season, ending a spectacular seven-year run at the club for the Australian goalkeeper.

Nagoya made a major splash when they signed Langerak in January 2018. The goalkeeper was part of two Bundesliga-winning teams at Borussia Dortmund, helped VfB Stuttgart earn promotion to the German top flight and was on the books in LaLiga with Levante, thus garnering high expectations for his arrival in Japan.

Langerak delivered on those expectations to say the least, establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the J.League and re-establishing the newly-promoted Grampus as a top-flight club from 2018 onward.

In 2020, Langerak took his play to a whole new level, leading J1’s best defense and earning J.League Best XI honors as he kept 17 clean sheets and Nagoya placed third in the table.

The following season, Langerak shone even brighter, helping Nagoya to the AFC Champions League quarter-finals and lifting long-awaited silverware in the J.League YBC Levain Cup. In the league, he would break a slew of records, including the most minutes without conceding a goal (823) and the most shutouts in a J1 campaign (21).

Langerak will finish the 2024 season with Grampus as they look to push into the upper half of the table and he builds on his magnificent legacy at one of Japan's most storied clubs.
