The 2018 J.LEAGUE Asia Challenge in Indonesia took place on Saturday evening in Jakarta, with FC Tokyo winning 4-2 against reigning Indonesian champions Bhayangkara in front of over 35,000 attendees.
Tokyo, under new manager Kenta Hasegawa, emerged onto the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium pitch with a fresh lineup that included winter arrivals Diego Oliveira, Kentaro Omori and Cayman Togashi.
The J.League representatives took the lead after just three minutes through Masato Morishige’s opening goal, but fell behind 2-1 midway through the second half after Bhayangkara’s David Da Silva and Marinus Wanewar both scored.
But Tokyo fought back, with substitute Takefusa Kubo scoring a 75th-minute equaliser before former Japan international Ryoichi Maeda netted the eventual winner.
Kubo’s second goal sealed the win for his side in stoppage time, completing the 4-2 result and giving Tokyo a promising start to the new year.
