Kazuya Konno has been named Konami Monthly MVP for September after the Avispa Fukuoka man put together a fabulous run of play that saw him lead his team to an undefeated mark for the month.
Konno was a constant threat from the very start of September, notching an assist in Avi’s 2-1 win over F.C.Tokyo. He then took over in Fukuoka’s win over Kashiwa Reysol, scoring a pair of delectable goals to lead his side from 1-0 down for the full three points.
Konno did it all for Avi, occupying an attacking midfield role from the right. He created chances with his passing and was quick to make runs into the box, making himself a threat to goal.
With Konno leading the way, Fukuoka won their first three matches of September before wrapping up the month with a draw. That stretch saw Avi take hold of eighth place, which would match the best finish in club history. Now they are eyeing a climb up the table, and a new club record, with Konno out in front.
Top honors in J2 went to JEF United Chiba’s Taishi Taguchi, who bossed the midfield as his club went perfect with four wins from four in September. He was tough in the tackle and quick to distribute, setting the tone for JEF’s excellent run of form and even taking the armband at the close of the month as the team’s captain.
Konami Monthly MVP in J3 was awarded to FC Osaka’s Takahiro Kitsui, who was a marksman in September. He scored four goals in four matches, all while serving as club captain, to aid his side’s push for promotion down the stretch.
