J.League Matchweek 35 Recap: Vissel overtake Sanfrecce for first place

Vissel Kobe 2, Júbilo Iwata 0

Vissel started the second half on fire with Taisei Miyashiro and Tetsuhi Yamakawa each scoring in the first eight minutes of the stanza to lead Vissel into first place.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima 0, Kyoto Sanga 1

Taiki Hirato’s gorgeous strike from the top of the box just about secured Sanga’s spot in the top flight for next season as they moved nine points clear of the drop zone, while Sanfrecce lost their second in a row to fall two points behind Vissel for first.

Sagan Tosu 2, FC Machida Zelvia 1

Tsubasa Terayama’s 84th-minute header fired last place Sagan to victory despite Ibrahim Dresević’s brilliant goal for Zelvia.

Kawasaki Frontale 1, Kashima Antlers 3

Antlers started spectacularly, with Kei Chinen, Yuta Higuchi and Kento Misao all scoring inside of 28 minutes as the visitors rolled to victory.

Gamba Osaka 3, Nagoya Grampus 2

Isa Sakamoto’s double fired Gamba to three points in a match played last week ahead of Nagoya’s J.League YBC Levain Cup Final victory over the weekend.

Albirex Niigata 0, Tokyo Verdy 2

Goki Yamada and Hiroto Taniguchi each hit in the second half in another match played last week to clear the weekend for Albirex’s cup final appearance.

FC Tokyo 0, Shonan Bellmare 2

Akito Suzuki scored two minutes before halftime and Taiga Hata scored three minutes after the break as Bellmare won their fourth in a row to just about guarantee themselves safety from relegation.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 1, Cerezo Osaka 1

Ryota Aoki netted after nine minutes, but Ryogo Yamasaki’s 85th-minute goal denied Sapporo full points in a potential backbreaking draw as they try to climb out of the drop zone.

Avispa Fukuoka 2, Kashiwa Reysol 1

Yuto Iwasaki’s stoppage time strike earned Avispa three points and kept Reysol just four points clear of the bottom three as they fight for another season in J1.

Yokohama F·Marinos 0, Urawa Reds 0

Hiroki Iikura and Shusaku Nishikawa stole the show as both goalkeepers made some terrific saves in a scoreless draw.
