J.League Match Preview: Capital derby takes centerstage as FC Tokyo and Verdy clash

The battle for Tokyo came back in a big way this year with the promotion of Tokyo Verdy to the top flight. When they met FC Tokyo in April, the two capital clubs gave us a match for the ages and now the derby is going to be kicked up another notch when they meet again on Saturday at 19:00 JST in a clash that will be live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

The season’s first battle saw Verdy jump out to a two-goal lead and FCT shown a red card. Yet, despite being down to 10 men, FC Tokyo got a 68th-minute goal from Keita Endo and then another in stoppage time in a dramatic draw.

FCT will be hoping to start much faster this time out, but their attack has gone scoreless in three straight games. The return of Ryotaro Araki from the Olympics would help, with the #NextGenJLEAGUE star potentially back in the starting lineup for the derby.

Verdy have a pair of terrific young talents themselves, though. Yudai Kimura and Itsuki Someno have proven to be game-changers as Verdy look to paint Tokyo green.

It's sure to be an epic occasion this weekend, with all the action live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world. Don't miss it!
