Vissel Kobe are riding a four-match unbeaten streak and they hope to make it five as they continue their push for the title on Saturday at 19:00 JST against Nagoya Grampus in a match that will be shown live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world from Kobe.
Vissel bounced back from their slow start to the season to play their way right back into the title race. Now they sit in third place as they chase their second straight league crown, though they dropped two points last week in Sapporo.
Bolstering Vissel’s bid for a repeat is the return to form of last season’s J1 MVP Yuya Osako, who has scored in three consecutive matches. This comes on the heels of Yoshinori Muto also on a hot streak, with three goals and two assists in the last six contests.
It was Osako and Muto who led Vissel to the first title in club history last season, with Osako leading all goal scorers and Muto hitting double digits in both goals and assists. With the duo back at their best, Vissel are a very dangerous team indeed.
Osako and Muto will make things very difficult on Nagoya’s typically good defense. Kenta Hasegawa’s side are down in 11th place, but they have conceded the sixth-fewest goals in the league as the backline has answered the call time and again.
The additions of Ha Chang-rae and Kennedy Egbus Mikuni have paid off, as both have slid right into the Grampus back line, with veteran Mitchell Langerak leading the way behind them.
Though the Grampus attack has sputtered at times, they got a huge boost last week when Yuki Soma returned from his loan at Portugal’s Casa Pia. The Japan international scored to end Grampus’ seven-match winless streak and could very well be the attacking dynamo that takes the team back into the top half of the table.
Will Soma lead Nagoya to a second consecutive win? Or will Osako and Muto bring Vissel closer to first place?
Tune in live around the world and find out!
