Brazil’s Figueirense were named champions of the 2016 J.League International Youth Cup after a penalty shootout win over South Korea’s Busan IPark on Saturday, December 25.
Following a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the two teams traded dramatic attempts until Figueirense pulled ahead to win the contest 8-7.
In the third place match, FC Tokyo U-18 managed a 4-3 victory over Sanfrecce Hiroshima Youth with ace striker Takafusa Kubo scoring in his fourth consecutive appearance.
Argentina’s Estudiantes won 1-0 over Australia’s Perth Glory in the fifth place match, while Matsumoto Yamaga U-18 downed Kyoto Sanga U-18 by a 3-2 result to finish the tournament in seventh.
Figueirense defender Mateus Soares was named the MVP of the tournament, while Tokyo’s Kubo claimed the Golden Boot for his six goals.
