Kazunori Yoshimoto insists FC Tokyo will play to win against Kashima Antlers after they were drawn together in the 2015 Yamazaki Nabisco Cup quarter-finals.
The centre-back represented Tokyo at the draw conducted on Monday, which pits the pair against each other on September 2 at Ajinomoto Stadium.
Antlers will then enjoy home advantage during the return leg played at Kashima Stadium on the 6th, but Yoshimoto insists he is confident of the capital club earning a place in the semi-finals.
“We want to win,” the 27-year-old said immediately after the draw. “I want to be prepared and play well. If we can do that, we’ll earn a result”
Antlers’ representative Gaku Shibasaki nevertheless said his team would be giving priority to the cup, given it is their remaining chance of silverware this term.
“We’ve played well against FC Tokyo lately [in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League], but every match is different and we have to properly prepare for this series,” the Japan international concluded.
