Kyogo Furuhashi’s red hot form is showing no signs of stopping. The forward scored his fifth goal in his last three matches to make it 14 on the season and extend his lead atop the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE’s goalscoring charts. He also added an assist as Vissel Kobe beat Shonan Bellmare, 3-1, to move into third place in the table.
Shonan actually struck first with a goal in the 12th minute, but Furuhashi answered back five minutes later. He showed off his pace to get in behind the defense and score, giving him two more goals than the league’s second-place goalscorer, Leandro Damião.
After Hotaru Yamaguchi gave Vissel a lead, Furuhashi got involved again to put the match away. He stole the ball in the Vissel half then led a counterattack down the left, driving the ball forward before cutting in and hitting a perfect ball across for Yuya Nakasaka to finish beautifully on the volley.
Vissel have now won four and drawn one in their last five league matches—a run that has seen them move even with Nagoya Grampus on points, but ahead on goal difference to take third place in the table. For a club that has never finished higher than seventh, this is setting up to be a dream season for Vissel Kobe and so much of it is down to the dazzling play of Furuhashi.
