Kota Tawaratsumida has been awarded Young Player of the Month for May as the FC Tokyo man shone brightest among the #NextGenJLEAGUE crop.
FC Tokyo are a haven for bright young talent, but they began May a bit shorthanded with multiple players at the U-23 Asian Cup. Tawaratsumida stepped up in their absence, contributing a goal and assist, while making an impact in nearly every game for FC Tokyo.
With Tawaratsumida leading the way, FC Tokyo won both of their first two games of the month and reached as high as fourth place in May.
The top young player in J2 was Harumi Minamino. The 20-year-old, on loan at Tochigi SC from Gamba Osaka, scored twice in the month and proved to be a bright spot in a team that struggled for much attacking verve outside of their young star.
Young Player of the Month in J3 was given to Yuki Kajiura. The 20-year-old is in his second season on loan at Zweigen Kanazawa from FC Tokyo and has blossomed in a more attacking midfield role of late. He scored two goals and added an assist in May, continuing his development as his club put together an undefeated month.
