J.League Match Preview: Zelvia hoping to snatch title against Kashima

While all the focus is on the fight between Vissel Kobe and Sanfrecce Hiroshima for the Meiji Yasuda J1 League title, there is another team who still has a chance to snatch the crown - FC Machida Zelvia.

And Zelvia will go for that crown on Sunday at 2 pm JST when they take on Kashima Antlers live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

Zelvia sit three points back of league leaders Vissel and two back of Sanfrecce and while they are well behind the Viola on goal difference, they are level with Vissel. If Zelvia can manage a win and the other two challengers lose, they will move even at the top with Vissel and claim the crown on goal difference.

While surging to the title in such a manner on the final day is improbable, so is the fact that Zelvia are even in position to top the league. This is their first-ever season in the top flight and it has been nothing short of a dream. To also capture the title may be a long shot, but so has this whole campaign. Zelvia are riding a spectacular wave, so why not take it one step further?

Zelvia have turned things around in recent weeks, winning each of their last two matches after a rough patch. Their excellent defense is back to form and have held consecutive clean sheets. One more, against a Kashima team they’ve beaten in the league and cup already this year, and they could be champions.

Will Zelvia’s magical season culminate in a title snatch for the ages?
