J.League Match Preview: Vissel push for title against desperate Júbilo

Vissel Kobe’s pursuit of a second straight Meiji Yasuda J1 League title is down to its last four matches and the pressure is on the team as they get a visit from Júbilo Iwata on Friday at 19:00 JST, live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

Vissel are just a point back of Sanfrecce Hiroshima for first place. They could have risen to the summit last time out, but a loss ended a six-match win streak and left them still looking up at the Viola.

Now, Vissel have to turn it on for the season’s final four contests. Their defense is still phenomenal, giving up the third-fewest goals of any team in the league, while their attack is second-best. It’s no surprise that they are in the title race and they have experience handling the pressure of the pursuit after reigning supreme a year ago.

Júbilo have plenty to play for themselves, sitting in 18th place and needing to eliminate the four-point gap between them and safety. Ryo Germain has been their main man all season, with 17 goals to his name after hitting for two in a victory last match, and if Júbilo are going to avoid the drop, it will be with him leading the way.

Will Júbilo earn three vital points in their fight for survival? Or will Vissel move closer to a second straight title?
