J.League Match Preview: Verdy aim to keep flying high against Urawa

Life is supposed to be difficult for newly promoted clubs, but Tokyo Verdy has made life in the top flight look easy. They’ve flown into the top half of the table and a top five finish is even in play as they look to complete a magnificent return to J1.

Next in Verdy’s spectacular season is a visit from Urawa Reds on Saturday at 17:00 JST in a match live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

Verdy have been led by a trio of 23-year-olds, Yudai Kimura, Itsuki Someno and Fuki Yamada. They’ve each scored at least five goals this season and have also taken on leadership roles, providing plenty of reason to be excited for the future in addition to delighting in their star turns this season.

Urawa haven’t had quite the same bright season, falling all the way to 13th place and struggling of late with three straight losses. Thiago Santana has played well in his first season at the club, netting 11 goals, and the Reds will hope that he can help them build momentum for 2025 with a strong finish in 2024.

Will Verdy continue their great season with another victory? Or will Urawa snap their skid with a win in the capital?
