Sanfrecce Hiroshima are the favorites for the Meiji Yasuda J1 League title, but they still have plenty of work to do in the season’s final six weeks and that begins when they square off against Júbilo Iwata on Sunday at 16:00 JST live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.
The Viola rode goals by Gonçalo Paciência and Mutsuki Kato to win last week’s top of the table clash with FC Machida Zelvia. The victory left Sanfrecce all alone in first place, a point clear of second place Vissel Kobe and three ahead of Zelvia.
That puts Sanfrecce in an enviable position, looking down on the rest of the league, but the margins are slim.
Fortunately, the Viola feature the best attack in the league and one that is in fine form, having scored multiple goals in each of their last seven matches. With Tolgay Arslan leading the fearsome front line, Sanfrecce go into every match with supreme confidence.
This match carries huge weight for Júbilo too, albeit on the other side of the table. Júbilo are in 18th place, leaving them barely in the drop zone. They are only three points from safety, though, so there is plenty for ace striker Ryo Germain and Co. to play for as they try to avoid relegation.
Will Sanfrecce be in first place when the weekend ends? Or will Júbilo climb out of the drop zone?
