J.League Match Preview: Sanfrecce have chance to win title on last day against Gamba

It’s all come down to this for Sanfrecce Hiroshima - one match against Gamba Osaka on the final day of the season with the Meiji Yasuda J1 League title on the line.

And you can tune in live to see the Viola potentially lift the trophy on Sunday at 2 pm live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

Sanfrecce enter the weekend one point back of Vissel Kobe and with a nine-goal lead on goal difference, so if they can make up that single point then they will be champions, but the only way to make that possible is with a result against Gamba.

Gamba are the toughest opponent any of the title contenders have in front of them on Sunday, with the Suita club sitting in fourth place. They also have plenty to play for, with them trying to hold onto their spot in the table and the AFC Champions League Two berth that will come with it.

The question for the Viola will be how they break down the Gamba defense, which is the second-best in J1. Fortunately, Sanfrecce are the league’s best attacking team and coming off of a five-goal display in a win last weekend, then a four-goal showing in Asian competition midweek, so they are in top form.

Pieros Sotiriou has been red-hot, with three goals in the Viola’s two games this week, so they have their in-form striker. They have the stakes. Can they topple Gamba and give themselves a chance to be crowned J1 champions?
