J.League Match of the Week: Zelvia host Frontale in need of win

FC Machida Zelvia have fallen a bit off the pace in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League title race, but they are still in the fight and can make a big move with three points when they host Kawasaki Frontale on Saturday at 15:00 JST in a match live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.

Zelvia have won just one of their last five and last week’s 2-0 defeat to table topping Sanfrecce Hiroshima dropped them to third place. But Go Kuroda’s team are still a mere three points back of the Viola, putting them in prime position to make a run in their final six matches.

The key for Zelvia will be kickstarting an attack that has not scored in their last 202 minutes of play. The return of Shota Fujio, who was back in the starting lineup last week, should help. The 23-year-old leads the team with nine goals and the threat he presents with each run is crucial to Zelvia’s front line.

There are no concerns about Frontale’s attack after they put five past Albirex Niigata last week. Shin Yamada and Erison are in top form and will present Zelvia with some massive problems.

Will Zelvia be able to get things going again and make some headway in their bid to claim the title? Or will Frontale’s attack keep rolling?
