J1 League Matchweek 30 Recap: Zelvia on top as title race takes turn

The top spot in the fight for the Meiji Yasuda J1 League title race changed hands yet again in Matchweek 30 as FC Machida Zelvia took back first place.

Let’s see how they did it and all the other action from the weekend:

Avispa Fukuoka 0, FC Machida Zelvia 3

Zelvia climbed back into third place with a second-half, three-goal barrage in Fukuoka, capped by Na Sang-ho’s screamer.

Kashima Antlers 2, Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2

A clever finish from 17-year-old #NextGenJLEAGUE star Homare Tokuda gave Antlers a late equalizer in a back-and-forth affair that knocked Sanfrecce back down into second place.

Vissel Kobe 2, Cerezo Osaka 1

Matheus Thuler scored close and Rikuto Hirose found the net from distance as Vissel knocked off Cerezo for a win that kept the reigning champs just three points off the top.

Gamba Osaka 0, Urawa Reds 1

Gamba had the bulk of the ball, and the majority of the shots, but Urawa had Takahiro Sekine’s terrific header. That was all it took for the Reds to claim all three points in Suita.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 0, Tokyo Verdy 2

Verdy painted Sapporo green as #NextGenJLEAGUE star Fuki Yamada kept his outstanding season going and Tiago Alves added another late. The win takes the Tokyo side into sixth place in their J1 return season.

Yokohama F·Marinos 1, Kyoto Sanga 2

A ninth-minute red card reduced F·Marinos to 10 men and Sanga took advantage. Kyoto sealed victory in Yokohama thanks to Rafael Elias's seventh goal in his last six matches and Taichi Hara’s fabulous solo effort.

FC Tokyo 4, Nagoya Grampus 1

It was a Kokuritsu Day to remember as FC Tokyo put on a show at the Japan National Stadium. Four goals from four different scorers gave the capital club a dominant win against visiting Grampus.

Albirex Niigata 3, Shonan Bellmare 1

Yuji Ono got Albirex going after just eight minutes, Motoki Nagakura scored a brilliant second, and Kaito Taniguchi netted his 10th of the season to wrap up a wonderful win in Niigata over Bellmare.

Kawasaki Frontale 3, Sagan Tosu 2

A classic in Kawasaki. It looked like Sagan may have stolen a draw when Hiroshi Kiyotake equalized from the spot in stoppage time, but Frontale wrestled the win back just before the final whistle thanks to Shin Yamada’s opportunistic header.

Kashiwa Reysol 0, Júbilo Iwata 2

Shun Nakamura was sensational with a goal and assist as Júbilo sealed a massive win in Kashiwa.
