Urawa look to creep closer to top in visit to Niigata

Urawa Reds have been good all season, but they haven’t really been in the title race until now. A good run of form, coupled with some slips at the top, have left them just six points back of the top. Now they’re ready to make a run at the crown, starting with a visit to Albirex Niigata on Saturday at 6 pm JST in a match that will be streamed live on the J.League International YouTube channel.

Urawa’s defense remains the best in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, having allowed just 19 goals through 25 matches and kept clean sheets in three of their last four. Coming off of consecutive wins, they are dreaming of climbing much higher than the fourth place spot they currently occupy and maybe finishing a season that began with an AFC Champions League crown by adding a domestic title.

Albi will have no interest in letting Urawa get any closer to the top, though. They are 11 points clear of the bottom, so another season in the first division looks likely, but they will want to climb higher than 15th place and giving their home fans something to cheer for on Saturday would be fitting in a season that has gone relatively well for the newly promoted side.

The J.League announced that up to four matches will be streamed live each week for the 2023 season, bringing one of Asia’s top league’s to fans around the world. The streams will be free to view on the J.League International YouTube channel in any country that does not have an existing rights agreement.
