With losses in their last two J1 matches, and a 7-3 defeat in the AFC Champions League Elite in between, Yokohama F・Marinos will look to bounce back on Saturday when they take on FC Tokyo in a match shown live on JLeague.co and broadcasters around the world.
Coming off a 6-2 loss to league leaders Sanfrecce, F・Marinos were able to bounce back in the midweek with an Emperor's Cup quarter-final win over Renofa Yamaguchi FC. The 5-1 triumph was a statement of intent by manager John Hutchinson's side who have lived a rollercoaster of a campaign.
While the fanbase has enjoyed highs like an appearance in the AFC Champions League final and a memorable win over Newcastle this summer, their league form has been dismal at times, with the Tricolor currently sitting in 9th place.
That can turn around this weekend, though, when FC Tokyo make the short trip to Nissan Stadium. It's a place where the capital club won't have the best memories; this is the venue that played host to a final-day defeat in 2019 that gave the league title to Yokohama.
But that was then, and this is now. FC Tokyo are winners of their last two and sitting in 7th place, just three points behind rivals Verdy in 6th.
Can they continue their climb up the table and secure bragging rights over their top rival? Or will the Tricolor bounce back at home with another important victory against FC Tokyo?
