Ryo Germain has been phenomenal this season, racking up goals and climbing to the top of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League scoring chart. It has now also earned him April’s Konami Monthly MVP award as recognition for his outstanding play.
Germain scored five goals in April and they were all crucial to Júbilo Iwata picking up results as they climbed out of the drop zone.
The striker found the back of the net twice in Júbilo’s 2-0 win over Albirex Niigata, then scored two more as his team drew Avispa Fukuoka, 2-2. Finally, he buried the penalty that rounded out an impressive 2-0 victory over FC Machida Zelvia.
Germain has been the league’s most deadly scorer and Júbilo has needed each and every one of his goals, with him making up more than half of their tallies on the season.
In J2, Konami Monthly MVP went to Koya Kitigawa, who missed the first match of April through injury before captaining Shimizu S-Pulse to four straight wins.
Kitagawa scored three goals and added two assists in his four April matches, playing a starring role in addition to his leadership.
Top honors in J3 went to Hagumi Wada, who scored five goals on the month as Azul Claro Numazu ran off an undefeated April.
